Summary
ORC 3701.22 requires the Ohio Department of Health to establish a laboratory to perform the following tasks: diagnosis of, screening for or confirmation of diseases or pathogens as it deems necessary; performance of biological, chemical or radiological analyses or examinations as it deems necessary.
Arboviruses are infectious diseases that are transmitted by mosquitos. Testing for anything beyond West Nile Virus is currently sent to CDC and result timing does not allow for timely public health response. Reducing the turnaround time by completing testing in state will lead to faster treatment and better health outcomes. ODHL will offer arboviral serology testing in human specimens to include West Nile virus, Powassan virus, Jamestown Canyon virus, St. Louis encephalitis virus, La Crosse virus, and Eastern equine encephalitis virus.
The Luminex LX200 will be used in compliance with the CDC arboviral testing panel at ODHL. RITM: RITM0517870Â
